Exciting news from the Karen Mogensen Reserve!

Our new addition to the Karen Mogensen Reserve!

Dear Friends and Nature Lovers,

Thanks to your generous support, we are happy to announce that we have just purchased an important piece of land, expanding the Karen Mogensen Reserve by an additional 51 hectares (126 acres)! This new addition consists of about 34 hectares of forest, 17 hectares of pasture, and 3 hectares of teak plantations (74, 42, and 7.41 acres, respectively). The latter two areas will be re-wilded into native forest over the next few years! A very special thank you goes out to the Smallwood Family, James, Kevin and Marcia, Sharifa and Zayd, Peggy and Robert, Union of Nature Foundation, EarthToday, and all of our other amazing donors; whose incredible generosity has pushed us over the funding finish line for our latest expansion.

HELP US BUY THE NEIGHBORING LAND

With your continued support, we will be able to purchase and reforest a neighboring 34 hectare (84 acre) cattle farm which will help ensure the safe passage of wildlife between areas of the reserve.

Maximizing Your Impact: 95% for Restoration

We believe in putting your donations to their best use. 95% of each donation goes directly into protecting and restoring our precious forests with their rich biodiversity and essential water sources. The remaining 5% go to administration!

Thanks to our new partnership with Amigos of Costa Rica, donating will now be easier than ever!

On October 19th, Luis Mena (our vice president) and I walked to El Paraíso farm to get to know this new addition. It was a fun adventure; a part of the reserve where I had not walked for a long time. I was impressed with the beautiful old trees and the many creeks and rivers.

Environmental Education Camps: Shaping Future Stewards

December brings the promise of an inspiring opportunity as we prepare to host 90 local students at the Reserve. Our educational program is designed to instill an awareness of the significance of safeguarding our forests, preserving biodiversity, and sustaining vital watersheds.

A heartfelt thank you to Schlomo and our other dedicated campaign donors for making this initiative possible.

Unstoppable Fire Brigade: Safeguarding Our Natural Corridor

Our volunteer firefighters displayed remarkable dedication and courage in May when they successfully contained a potentially disastrous fire. Their swift response ensured that a crucial biological corridor connecting to the reserve remained unharmed.

Remodeling Resurgence: Birdwatchers' Paradise

The transformation is complete! An old building that had fallen into disuse is now reincarnated with two beautiful rooms in our Ecolodge. Crafted from hardwood trees that had fallen within the reserve, this new addition is the ultimate destination for birdwatchers. The distinctive holes in the Ron Ron, a hardwood species, are the result of nature's course, with longhorn beetles carving their mark into fallen trees.

Inspiring Young Minds: Recycling Center & Educational Outreach

In a bid to inspire the next generation, we initiated campaigns focused on recyclable materials. Complemented by an educational program, we engaged kids aged 7 to 12, who showcased their creativity by painting recycled shopping bags.

If you have been looking to make a meaningful impact, this is your opportunity!
